It is after 3 years when he did a super hit “Omkara” in 2006, Director Vishal Bharadwaj comes back with his action-packed drama of “Kaminey”. The film is scheduled to be released on 14th August 2009 and expects a box-office puller during the Independence Day holiday crowd for the week end.
The hype and hoopla of this UTV Motion Pictures Film has already started. The budget is said to be Rs.35 crores (Rs.350 millions) and world-wide released with an “A” certificate and 1100 prints. The songs of the films and initial rushes have raised the expectation of the masses, particularly as this is the first film Shahid Kapoor has played a double role.

The story line of Kaminey is about two identical twins, both played by Shahid, born, bred and spoiled at Dharavi, the famous (or infamous) biggest slum of Bombay and Asia.  The brothers – Charli and Guddu – hate each other like anything and choose entirely different ways of life. Guddu works as a trainee in a private firm to become a decent middleclass man and Charlie aspires to become a big shot and makes a living by betting at the Race course, as a way of making quick money.

Both brothers never cross their paths, until a sudden and fateful night changes everything. Guddu finds his love Sweety (Priyanka Chopra) puts a price on his head unwittingly. Charli gets into a deathly get-rich-quick scheme and both the brothers collide to fight against gangsters; rogue politicians and corrupt corps on an adventure. What happens afterwards is the rest of the story.
The film has star-cast by the writer-director Amol Gupte, besides Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Written and directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, with music scored by himself for the lyrics of Oscar fame Gulzar.

Shahid pins his hopes on “Kaminey” as he has played a double role for the first time and is also a commercial film by Vishal Bharadwaj, trying something different from a run-of-the-mill love story.
