The body of Mother Teresa, the renowned Noble Laureate and Social Service soul is kept at rest in Kolkata at the place where she was all along been functioning. When posed the above question, the authorities of Missionary of Charities declined to comment.
Mother Teresa’s popularity among the people of India, particularly those who received her benevolence among the poor and downtrodden, is very well known. The Albania-born Mother was devoting her entire life for the service of the people and when she came to India, she was just 18 years old. From then on the Mother was tireless in working hard for the welfare of poor people and destitute of the society, till breathing her last.
The entire world watched with awe the totally non-selfish attitude of the Mother and her fund-raising campaigns against all odds, to rescue and service the suffering people in Kolkata. For her selfless service, she was conferred with the honor of Nobel Prize for public service and her name was recommended for Sainthood at Vatican.
News is the Government of Albania is now claiming that the mortal remains of Mother Teresa are required by their country, as she was born in Albania. The Indian Government is silent on this issue and on behalf of the Missionary of Charities, Sister Christy when contacted declined to comment, saying that the matter has not been officially decided yet.
It is not only Kolkata but the people of whole Indian country are against this proposal. Mother Teresa’s resting place is visited by thousands of people everyday and worshipped with flowers. Artist Raghu Roy, who was close to Mother remembered that during her days the Mother was oftentimes saying that India is her country and when she reached the heavenly abode, the entire Kolkata residents paid their heartfelt respects to her in a heavy rain. So it is surprising that Albania has come up with such a request.
