Movie Review of Hollywood Movie 2012

If you have not seen director Rolland Emmerich’s earlier movies – The Independence Day; 10000 BC; The Day after Tomorrow and Godzilla – you might not know what a thrill a seasoned director can give by his special effects in a movie. 2012 the Hollywood film about Dooms Day that will be-fall on mankind in 2012 is yet another great movie in this series.

Before going further, a small tip of statistics – this movie, dubbed in Tamil, has shattered the earlier box office collections in Tamilnadu, India – “Titanic” Rs.10 lakhs; “Mummy” Rs.9 lakhs; and 2012 just in one week has crossed Rs.4 crores.

The story line is simple – if we go on damaging the environment and polluting, the Global warming will have disastrous effects. One Indian scientist (thanks Hollywood) Satnam (Jimmy Mistry) predicts in 2009 that the end of the world will be sooner than later.

On the day of doom how people get a panic of survival – an American President; his daughter; an ordinary man wishing to re-join with his divorced wife and two daughters; and a planning villain – all of them and others, battle with the natural disasters and survive with the help of a super-duper boat.

The special effects and graphics of the film (by Mike Vezina) and breath-taking photography (Sean Demier) make this science-fiction adventure an outstanding one. Volcanic eruptions; tsunamis; fissures and giant waves of the sea – every one of them takes the audience to the height of thrill and only can be experienced by viewing them.

The film shows as real happenings – The American Presidential Palace White House is washed away; The Sistine Chappel goes; Los Angeles and California disappear from the world map. All these are visual effects by camera and we realize that only we come out of the theatre.

Set aside your logic about negative thinking of world ending and see this one-of-its-kind movie to cherish for long.
