Universal charger to fit all cell phones

Often times many of us have come across this daunting experience – during travel or staying away from home, the battery of our hand phone gets down and the device becomes useless, when we most want it. While searching for the phone charger frantically, we get blood-pressure rise, since we would have forgotten to pack the charger when we left home.

The friend or relative with whom we are staying is very much ready to offer their charger. But alas…that is not suitable for our phone, even though both cellphones are from the same manufacturers, but different models. It is at times like these, we curse why the hell somebody invents a battery charger that suits all mobile phones.

You can breathe a sigh of relief – here is news that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) of the United Nations has announced that it has approved the “Universal Charging Solution (UCS)”, which enables manufacturers to incorporate UCS in all future mobile phones. The new technology will pave way for using the same charger for all handsets, irrespective of make and model.

Apart from redressing the hassles of every mobile phone users, a universal charger also solves the problem of wastage of old chargers piling up, as they are discarded on purchase of a new handset. The environmental pollution by dumping such massive electronic rubbish is avoided, including 51,000 tons of duplicate chargers.

Like the digital cameras, the new technology device will have a micro-USB port at the connecting end. Really a boon to mobile phone users, whose number has already crossed 4 billions and growing, the world over.
