California State is proposing to ban big TV sets

Global warming has been the growing concern the world over. US administration has been devising strategies to delay the inevitable for quite some time. News is California Federal Government under Arnold Schwarzenegger is considering a ban on big TV sets – more than 40” breadth-wise – for the reason that big TV sets consume more power and thereby cause enormous environmental damage in heating up the atmosphere.

Public service non-profit organizations in California have been vehemently lobbying for such a ban. They reasoned out the higher electricity consumption by big TV sets has been going up steadily, as more and more US homes have a fancy for these electronic gadgets. They pleaded that the environmental pollution by the increased electricity consumption should be addressed immediately.

The State Energy Commission probed the subject and submitted its report to the government, recommending that the bigger TV sets consume more power and therefore a ban on their use can be implemented.

The Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is a former Hollywood star and has been extending his support towards US participation in arresting global warming. He has accepted the recommendations of the Commission and has planned to conduct a vote on the proposal in the Senate, to pass the required resolution. Once this is done, it will become a law of the State of California that from the year 2013 no bigger TV sets of 40” width and more can be produced and sold.

Meanwhile, TV set manufacturers have raised their voice, opposing the move saying bigger TV sets show the growth of technology; the usage of such TV sets is comparatively less; and so the electricity consumption will not be that much to warrant a ban.

The opposition of TV set manufacturers is louder, because California will show the way to other States for such a ban to follow suit.
