Suresh Raina with bat and L. Balaji with ball help Chennai Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by 38 runs
It is a sweet revenge taken by Chennai Super Kings on Rajasthan Royals, who won in the last IPL 20 Games final last year, relegating them to the runner-up place. Chennai Super Kings was in a “must win” situation to stay in the contest. Suresh Raina rised to the occasion with his brilliant batting performance of 98 runs, just denied the ton when he hit a huge six, caught by Greame Smith, off Munaf Patel. But for this tremendous batting, the total of 165 runs could not have been accumulated. Particularly when the usual striker, Mathew Hyden failed with his bat for just 1 run, bowled cleanly by Y. Pathan. Laxmipathy Balaji shined with his purposeful bowling, to restrict Rajasthan Royals at 126/9 with 4 wickets, giving away just 21 runs.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and put Chennai Super Kings to bat first. When their turn came to chase the big score, their batsmen failed miserably. Falling like a pack of cards, including Yusuf Pathan (20) who won their last match, put up a pathetic show. R. Jadeja was the best scorer with 37 runs.
Suresh Raina for his wonderful performance with the bat was rewarded with the Man of the Match award. He also took Quiney’s wicket and caught Yusuf Pathan. Chennai Super Kings have registered their second victory in 5 matches with this win.
