Search Engine Optimization – How to Make Best Use for Websites
Following are the tips you can follow, if you want your website listed in primary Search Engines. These are given for your catching the eyes and attention of “ROBOT” – the mechanical feature of the Search Engines.
Title of the Page:
For achieving the best optimization of the website in the Search Engines, this is very important aspect and you should ensure that the Page Title contains phrases rich with keywords, together with the Company name and name of the place. Unique titles for every page containing 62 to 64 characters will be ideal.
Description for
Describing the contents of the page in main phrases of keywords, not more than 160 or 180 characters which includes spaces, as Meta Description is recommended. As these will be appearing in the Search Engine listings, care should be taken to see that it is appealing the most.
This is what the Internet Searcher is going to type when he makes the search through Search Engines. Therefore the page title, page description, as also the phrases together with the company name and place should be placed within 1000 characters in the Meta Keywords tag. Better still to modify the keywords differently in phrases to get best results.
Heading Tag:
Short, descriptive Headings relevant to what is said on the page and title should be there at each page. These Heading tags should be at the top with important keywords and key phrases along with subsections, if any, to the tags clearly mentioned.
Alt. Tag:
For describing the images this is used. While placing the cursor on the image a text appears to show the description of the image. So the text should correspond with the image to contain key words and phrases, the limit being 70 characters.
Web Content:
It is important that the primary keyword finds a place within the first 25 words to be located. Search Engines give importance to keywords in this area than others, and the Keywords: Total Text ratio should be a balanced one. Generally keyword density of any website should be 3% to 5% of the text contained in the page and Search Engines ignore the stop words in between. Also Search Engines give importance, though in a less important way, to the finishing lines of the text.
Navigation:
Search Engines expect the anchor text rich with keywords to be located at the top of the main page, in the Navigation with title tag and summary. Home page should also have hyperlinks leading to important pages of the site inside with a site map so as to crawl on the links.
Domain Name of the site:
In selecting the Domain Name of the site care should be taken that it has all keywords and key phrases pertaining to the site, separated appropriately with hyphens together with the name of the Company, because Search Engines attach importance to domain names that are rich with keywords. So it would be ideal to select domains starting in alphabetical order – A, B or C – maximum 67 characters – to enable placement in directories at the top. Numerical positions like “1” or “1st” should be avoided for Open Directory placement, as they will ignore these parts of domain names.
Submission to Search Engines & Directories:
Submission of the site is possible by first submitting them to the related Directories. Therefore in line with the content of the site, it should be submitted to the appropriate Directories that are manually compiling the websites in accordance with their categories.
Along with the data information, they can be submitted to the “add site” page of the relevant category in these directories. This is a most important step, as Search Engines crawl over these directories category-wise and take them to the Search Engines’ listing free of cost.
Another way of submitting the website to the Search Engines is through their “ROBOTs” which crawl over websites and automatically compile their search listings. While doing so only submit the Home Page, which already has the major keywords and phrases and the Search Engines will automatically take the links from the Index Page.
As a matter of caution, websites can be submitted to Search Engines only manually, instead of relying on automatic software, since there is the danger of over submission. Unless you do not know the origin of the Search Engine, you will be submitting to the Website to all Search Engines, leading to duplication and will incur penalty or worst still, removal from the Listings totally.
