Samsung M7600 – Review
Here is yet another phone in the long line of ‘leaked’ Samsung phones.
The M7600 is a touch screen phone which is more music – centric. In an effort to become your very own portable walkman, the phone is equipped with Bang & Olufsen speakers, which will ensure that you’ll get a really crisp sound quality from the phone. It sure does make a difference from the sound that you hear from the speakers of an ordinary phone.
The Samsung M7600 seems to be hell – bent on raising the bar for music – centric phones by allowing you to mix and scratch the songs, just like a DJ does, by using the phone’s touch screen display to do so. The rest of the specifications sheet makes for quite some eye – candy as it has a 2.8 inch AMOLED touch screen (which means that you’ll get a really deep black colour as well as some really bright colors), a 3 MP camera with a LED flash and a self – portrait mirror, HSDPA connectivity, GPS facilities and also natively supports DivX videos. The last feature is really great as you can send in those movies and TV shows you download directly to the phone without having to convert them to another format.
It also has stereo speakers, which will just make your music experience all the more pleasant.
As far as looks go, you really can’t refrain from getting the feeling that it looks a lot like the Helio Ocean 2, which is set to be released by Pantech.
However, the pictures don’t seem to reveal a separate slot for the stylus. This would either mean that the Samsung M7600 comes equipped with a stylus which is attached to the outer part of the body like it is for the Samsung Omnia or that the touch screen is equipped with capacitive technology just like what the recently announced S8300 is supposed to have. Since both seem to be making use of the same user – interface, future users will definitely hope that the latter is the case.
From the leaked pictures, it can be seen that, on one side, there is the volume rocker (which seems to be fairly comfortable to use), a lock button (which will be used to lock the screen when not in use to prevent accidental pressing of the screen) and the USB port to connect the phone to your PC.
The other side seems to contain the microSD memory card slot and the camera button.
The back panel, quite disappointingly, is quite bare. For the eye – candy that the front panel is, Samsung could have put in some more effort to at least put some nice designs on the back. Instead, there seems to be a lot of cells (more like those which are found in bee hives).
The phone is expected to be released somewhere in the second quarter of this year (rumors have it that it might possibly be released in May 2009). However, all this is just speculation, and everything will be confirmed at the MWC 2009!
