Rajasthan Royals was squarely beaten by Punjab Kings XI by 27 runs
Captain Shane Warne was very confident that Lady Luck will smile this time also as was the case in their last encounter with Colcatta Riders, where Yusuf Pathan won the match in a tie. But the turn of events proved otherwise on Sunday.
Punjab Kings XI won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Karan Goel and Ravi Bopara did not expect that even before the Innings started, Goel will be run out unfortunately at the non-striker’s end. Kamran Singh was the bowler. Captain Yuvaraj Singh flicked to a catch behind with 2 runs. With Bopara packing off with 11 runs the score was 38/3. However Sankakara (60) and Irfan Pathan (39) steadied the Innings to score a reasonable total of 139/6.
Chasing 140 Rajasthan Royals opened with Asnodkar and Greame Smith. Wickets fell like a pack of cards by batsmen scoring in single digits. Bowler Abdulla struck the blow with 3 wickets and Irfan Pathan 2 wickets. The efforts of Jadeja (41) and Captain Shane Warne by a bold 34 not out did not yield fruit. At the end of the 20th over, they were able to score only 112/7 and defeated by Punjab XI by 27 runs.
Kumar Sankakara for his highest score was adjudged the Man of the Match. Punjab Kings XI posted their second victory in 4 matches.
