Outsourcing to India is like “Just one word plastics”, a classic line from the old movie “The Graduate”. “India is on everybody’s radar screen, so it’s a good place to be when exciting things are going on,” says Boeing’s Anil Shrikhande. Each day brings new areas to be outsourced to India. India churns the knowledge whirl pool! A study by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce showed India is home to 220 of the Fortune 500 companies from countries such as the US, Switzerland, Canada, Sweden, United Kingdom, Germany Netherlands, France, Japan and South Korea.
Outsourcing is a by-product of fast moving globalization process, and ”Outsource India” is a new trend, permeating the socio-economic structure in India very fast. Nearly three million English literate graduates possessing multitasking skills join the huge youth populace every year in India, which is employable by almost anyone, around the world. This huge, young, talent pool can be utilized using the right measurements for numerous works. An endless list of such works, that can be fluidly outsourced to India, may include writing of a technical nature, website content writing, journalistic writing, proofreading or manuscript editing, software and other related programming, just to list a few.
Outsourcing to India has many advantages — it has a strong technological base and an experienced service delivery industry, a relatively efficient capital market with a long history of banks, an efficiently growing private sector and legal framework, a younger workforce, which is unique to India only. The growth of India’s youth population is a big factor in the whole scenario which has turned out to be a major advantage in its favor. By 2020, 47% of Indians will be between the ages of 15 and 59, as compared with 35% now. This workforce is too happy to land a job in the first place to bother too much about the salary.
Near shore benefits facilitate more comfortable and better arranged business visits rather the travelling halfway across the globe. Most suitable time zones and compatible geo-political environments have contributed to ease out the communication process .Language and other cross cultural familiarity has enhanced the comfort level in understanding the client’s needs. Technically skilled, educated workforce at affordable costs, government benefits such as ‘free zones’ and less employee attrition are some other factors also. India offers scalability, cost-effectiveness and an optimum level of quality and process maturity in high-performing software, services and many other sectors Outsourcing to India can deliver more than just labor cost savings.
Liberalization now has taken roots in India and the Government has steadily lowered interest rates, taxes and relaxed various forex restrictions, the governments have realized that India has stumbled upon a goldmine. As a result, a renewed support from the government is forthcoming.
Outsourcing is not a singular concept. Disadvantages cast a reclined shadow as well. Despite its constantly taking new dimensions, new trends and ideas, the grey spots are visible clearly. Outsourcing in India is becoming an agent of cultural shift. This cultural shift on the other hand is breaking societal bonds in a different way. Some outsourcing establishments in India are working without a long term vision; planning and commitment .Such Indian companies will never be competitive in quality and innovation. Various businesses related Patterns in India are often slow to change as well. It takes about 1-3 years for an Indian graduate to become a “realistic candidate.” with global vision, although this is shrinking fast. Since outsourcing in India is passing through the stages of evolution. ‘Learning while working “is the only way out and it takes considerable time to produce quality and efficiency.
Another disadvantage which is common to all including India is that it can be a threat to the security and confidentiality of issues of a company. Cost-reduction strategies give birth to few ventures focusing on instant financial benefits only. Low paid employees contribute to increase the attrition and this poses enhanced possibilities for breach of privacy and confidentiality between the two parties.
Non- existing basic Infrastructure conducive to the business growth is another disadvantage to outsourcing to India. Travelling infrastructure within India with more comfort is still a “Distant Dream”. The chaotic traffic and deteriorating roads at places where several IT companies are located is a major problem. Information and communication network penetration is centered in some select areas only. Disaster Relief Tracking System is almost not existing in reality and hence a big challenge in itself. Dispute resolution process is at very immature level in India and judicial process is very complicated which consumes years altogether to get the justice delivered. Red- tape, corruption, tedious clearance systems, tough labor laws and bureaucracy are some potential drawbacks other than the weak infrastructure are deterring factors.
For India, a country which has proved it’s worth already established itself in the outsourcing domain, needs a serious attention on these grey areas to show people that “yes, you are making the right decision by moving offshore to India”!
Spread Notes about the Article….
How did I write it…?
The article is based upon various facts and information including reactions and remarks posts and comments on outsourcing concept. I normally devote much time on reading and then conceptualizing and then on planning on my articles. Writing normally does not take much time as it comes naturally to me. This was an interesting experience this time. Working on such a concept which is an ocean in itself is indeed a challenging task and I enjoyed it.
My homework first…..
This article has been written with a different focus. Here I have emphasized more on India and its nature of outsourcing business. I did develop the idea to write it in this way. You will find some interesting facts which are not available anywhere, specifically e.g. the Disaster Relief System and Dispute Resolution Mechanism etc. I also imagined as if someone is really looking for an honest opinion about it.
Keywords Cantered….
I have made serious attempts to ensure the right placements of the “keywords” given to me. Weaving an article around the keywords is an essential part of the web-world I understand.
I had to assume…
There were few issues where I had to decide myself as no further clue was given to me. Assuming that I am writing for mature ones I have kept all the sincerity maintained. This would have been easier if I had known the “target Readers”. Making an article gets smooth that way.
This is such a wide-scoped subject that I could write a whole thesis on it. But here I have tried to keep it within a limit of 600-900 words limit only (or at least up to 1000 words). This also could have been reduced up to 400-600 words limit very easily.
You may spot out some deficiencies here as well and I would appreciate that if it is communicated back to me.
I hope you are going to like this article. I would be happy to enter into a long lasting relationship this way.
