Movie Review – PAA (Hindi)
Much hype has already been created in the media about the Hindi film – PAA – where the Indian cine legend, Amitabh Bhachchan (fondly called Big B, considering his physical height and popularity weight) has taken a very exciting role. He appears as a 13 year old boy (at his 67th year of age) Auro – a kid suffering from a rare disease “Progeria”, where a child gets premature aging, head growing big and with other eye and teeth disorders.
Amtabh’s real-world son, Abishek Bachchan plays his “father” in this story of emotional conflicts of the parents having such a problem-child. Vidya Balan, who has acted as Big B’s mother is elated she had such a chance and says she will announce her siblings – Amitabh was her “first child” in cinema.
To convert the old Amitabh into a school-going kid, the production team should have toiled like anything and the actor has been put to many hardships – not able to move, take lunch or tiffin but only liquids with a straw – for the entire time of shooting. The get-up took 4 hours every time, for the Hollywood make-up artist Stephen Dupius (remember Mrs. Doubtfire, which made history?).
Ilayaraja, the South Indian Mastero has done music. Big B has produced this film under the banner AB Corp and gave the entire responsibility to Abishek. He has won the praise of his father, in limiting the budget within 14.75 crores (as against the estimated 15 crores), in the present day cinema budgets of over 50 crores. (Shrewd business people – no doubt).
The film is scheduled to be released on 4th December and news is Abishek is going to carry a piggyback of Amitabh Bachchan (in the film) on his shoulders, when he appears on stage, during the premier show at Mumbai on 3rd December.
