LOVE – See the Time Difference
When it comes to finding love, some truisms are part of the rulebook, almost irrefutable. Fed on a healthy diet of rom-coms, laws of attraction are governed more by what we see and hear than what we experience! “Every couple varies and so do the rules of love.” Yet old habits die hard. But a new age needs new rules…
THEN: you can tell if you’re truly attracted to someone in 3 seconds.
NOW: Wrong! It takes at least 3 dates. Love at first sight can save you time but a 3-date minimum is needed to build up rapport.
THEN: Your mate must need all criteria on your ‘must list’.
NOW: A ‘must list’ won’t keep you warm at night. You aren’t building a lover in a lab. Set doable standards.
THEN: Opposites attract.
NOW: Opposites distract. Think about it… If you don’t want the same thing for the future, what kind of future willl you have? Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should date your clone! Same tastes don’t spark off chemistry but similar does it. That’s when your horizons expand….
THEN: A couple must stay together 24×7.
NOW: Yikes! That’s the surest first step towards Splitsville. Couples now want a life beyond the coosome twosome. So there will be ‘your pals’, ‘my pals’ and ‘our pals’. And a fair amount of unquestioned freedom to follow pursuits like travel, pubbing and hanging out with your exclusive mates. Space is the buzzword!
THEN: Your first kiss should be a toe-curling experience.
NOW: Nah! Ever since our first fairy tale, the poor first kiss has had too much pressure on it. The reasons for a good/bad kiss are many. Let them not seal the fate of your relationship.
THEN: When its true love, you think about the person constantly.
NOW: When its true love, thinking about the person makes you feel good! Constantly, endlessly thinking about another person is not love, its infatuation!
