In a thrilling finish Bangalore Royal Challengers beat Punjab Kings XI by 8 runs

01-05-09: The new Captain Anil Kumble for Royal Challengers, after Kevin Pietersen went back to England, has some luck to start with a win in the second version of IPL Games.  He manipulated the situation with clever bowling changes, to down the opponent team’s batsmen one by one. He himself removed the dangerous Yuvaraj Singh, Captain of Punjab Kings XI, after the opener was brisk in accumulating 50 runs to score first wicket partnership of 70 without loss. After Yuvaraj sent two sixes in Kumble’s bowling, fell for a ball hit not so fast, to be caught by Jacques Kallis. Kumar Sangakkara (17), Mahela Jayawardane (19) and Irfan Pathan (12) failed to stick on to reach the target of 146 and ended miserably at 137/7.

Earlier Bangalore Royal Challengers won the toss and elected to bat. Yusuf Abdulla claimed 4 wickets and Irfan Pathan 2 wickets. Yuvaraj Singh performed the very first Hat-trick of IPL Games today, when he eliminated Robin Uttappa, Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher in the last two balls of 11th over and the first ball of 12th over. However batsmen like RD Merwe (35), Kallis (27), Uttappa (19) and Virat Kohli (16) contributed well to sustain the Innings to reach a competitive total of 145/9.

Yuvaraj Singh was the Man of the Match for his Hat-trick and 50 runs.
