Cell phone technology takes a new turn, with sophisticated technology advancement enabled by Google coming into effect. The Internet giant has unveiled Global Positioning System (GPS) – a free navigation system for mobile phones. News is Verizon Wireless, the US telecom carrier, and Motorola, the renowned handset maker also from US have announced simultaneously their Smartphone “Droid” to hit the market next week with the feature of very first Google Maps Navigation.
The new Smartphone Droid is powered by Android 2.0 software, which is Google’s potential operating system. Droid would eventually be a threat to Blackberry from Research in Motion and iPhone from Apple. The new phone will be priced at 200 dollars.
The Google Maps Navigation is a facility which contains many features like 3D map views and voice guidance on every turn, through the Smartphone running on Android 2.0 software. Further, the users can make voice search in English, get live traffic updates, satellite images from Google Maps and also real time ground-level pictures of intended destinations as “street-view”. For example they will be able to locate restaurants or gas stations enroute.
The Droid smart phones with the present features of touch-screen, QWERTY keyboard sliding out, 5 mega-pixel camera with DVD quality video and playback – are slated for scale in the United States from 6th November.
Will this be a challenge to the standalone GPS devices manufactured by TomTom of Netherlands and Garmin of the United States, which are used by drivers already on the roads? Mixed responses are available in the industry circles – some saying the display is too small and would not be comfortable for drivers and some others of the opinion that Global Positioning Devices from hand phones will speed up the trip. Only time will tell.

Scientific inventions have no bounds. Here is the Dyson Air Multiplier fan – from James Dyson, a British Inventor, who gave us bag-less vacuum cleaner and then the towel-less hand dryer. This time with a table fan model, with no rotating blade at all and by the look of it one can not but wonder – an object straight from a sci-fi movie!
This scientist says that conventional table fans have gone unchanged for the last 125 years, albeit some minor changes in the shapes, weights, looks etc., but not without blades. What happens is the blades “chop” the air in rotation and we get an uneven flow of air and unpleasant buffeting often times.
So Dyson and his team of fluid dynamics engineers enlarged the spark they got from their earlier invention – Dyson Airblade commercial hand dryer. They were encouraged by its performance, using sheets of clean air travelling at a speed of 400 mph and drying hands faster.
Thus the air-multiplier technology was born, out of 4 years’ hard work. They refined to perfection the new machine’s circular aperture, together with the airfoil-shaped ramp.
In simple language, the new bladeless- fan works this way – it draws air into the base of the apparatus; the air is forced up into the loop amplifier; there is a 1.3 mm aperture to accelerate the air through; it creates a jet of air, which hugs the airfoil-shaped ramp. Thus the air from the front and sideways of the fan are pushed into an air stream, that blows amplified into 15 times powerful than a conventional fan with blades. This results in a continuous, uninterrupted, even flow of cool breezing air.
The best part is – the speed of the air can be adjusted with a dimmer switch. This novel fan has been released for sale in US and Australia – a 10-inch model fan would cost $300 and a 12-inch model at $330.

To understand clearly – some useful gadgets in the electronic field are – advanced mobile phones such as Iphone; GIS navigation device. In the gifts and novelty field USB Toys and Radio-controlled toy cars are examples of electronic gadgets.

When and How Much?

As of Tuesday, April 07, 2009, Apple has raised the prices of some of its iTunes songs. Instead of costing you $0.99 for a song, you might have to cough up $1.29 for your favorite new releases. Apple has raised the price of some popular new releases by 30 cents.

Apple originally announced the 30 cent price during the MacWorld show in January, citing that the price will go up from $0.99 to $1.29 for some of the popular acts already on the mainstream music stage and that the 30 cent price hike would not affect newer, mostly up and coming acts.

Outrage

Addicted music downloaders are going into in to a frenzy over the latest “price jacking” by Apple. They have started seeking out alternative download sites but have run into similarly raised prices at other sites as well. Most other download sites have hopped on the wagon that Apple created; why shouldn’t they? When an industry leader makes a change, especially where financial gains are to be made, other competitive companies are bound to follow suit.

Apple has left many music lovers with withdrawal effects and made them long for sites like Napster again. Companies like Spiralfrog.com and Limewire.com have seen a jump in their recent business due to the iTunes price hike.

On the Wagon

Other mega-companies like Amazon.com are matching the iTunes change, step for step. Amazon has recently raised their prices for certain popular artist song to the now acceptable $1.29.

The Experts Say…

Ted Cohen, former EMI Music executive, is afraid that increased prices will alienate downloaders and put an even bigger strain on struggling music companies. He went on to tell the L.A. Times that “this will be a PR nightmare” and continued with, “It is for the music industry what the AIG bonuses are for the insurance industry.”

While Apple still needs to make money, Cohen, who is now a partner with the digital media firm TAG Strategies, hopes that the increase will not make his statement a prophecy.

Apple did take one step in the right direction by making iTunes accessible via a digital rights management (DRM) free format which eliminates the burn limits and allows iTunes to be played on devices other that Apple’s. However, with the new price hike, some pundits are skeptical and thinking that Apple is giving in one direction and grossly taking in the other.

A reliable source has informed us that in September of 2009 Research In Motion will be releasing the Blackberry Storm 2. This comes after the go ahead was given by Verizon Wireless. The latest Storm 2 is the anticipated follow up as well as upgrade to the first touchscreen Blackberry named the Storm. The now commonly used original Blackberry Storm was Verizon’s answer to Apple’s iPhone.

Features

According to our extremely reliable source inside Verizon, Research In Motion (RIM) has made some major important improvements upon the first Smartphone, the Blackberry Storm, of the most complained about was the lack of WiFi. The new Blackberry Storm addresses not only this issue but the issue of the touchscreen display that was often criticized. Assurances have been made that RIM has addressed not only the highly criticized faults in the first Blackberry Storm but has made other important and sought after upgrades.

Business Aspects

The Blackberry Storm 2 will, of course, be using the Blackberry App World as it operating platform. Verizon’s goal is to gain an even larger market share in Apple’s iPhone business. Verizon has been struggling to effectively compete with the iPhone. With the introduction of the new Blackberry Storm 2, Verizon is hoping to utilize the new upgrades—especially the Blackberry Storm 2’s new and improved touchscreen display and more importantly, the much needed WiFi capability—to become more competitive alongside the Apple iPhone and effectively reducing the growing monopoly on Smartphone products produced by Apple.

Chinese PC maker Lenovo has developed a latest portable media player (PMP) with the new MRT800. While Lenovo is traditionally a manufacturer of very well made PCs and laptops, they have turned their attention to the more portable PMPs after they had already given us the ThinkPad W700d with the slide out screen at the Consumer Electronics Association tradeshow in January 2009.

Features

While the new MRT800 doesn’t really give us any new technology, it does introduce touchscreen technology for PMPs. This new PMP looks basically the same as all the other PMPs on the market today but it does support a plethora of file formats including an FM tuner.

Supported Format:

Video and Audio

o AVI
o WMA
o WMV
o ASF
o MP4
o FLV
o RM/RMBV
o ASF
o OCG
o FLAC
o MP3

Images

o JPEG
o BMP

Tech Specs

4.3 inch 480×272 LCD touchscreen display

4GB Memory

Micro SD card slot

FM Tuner

Voice recorder

Price Tag

Currently the price amount as well availability of this new PMP isunknown. However, if the price is less than your average iPod then the MRT800 should sell rather well as most Lenovo products do. Almost all other PMPs on the market are flying off the shelf and a PMP with a touchscreen should equally as well if not better.

Chances are that if you are using a fan in your home or office then it might be a little warm. However, that didn’t stop the inventor of this fan from making yet another useless use for LED lights. The invention of the electric fan happened about 100 years ago but the FanSee fan attempts to improve upon the design by including LED lights display what the current temperature is in front of the fan blades—only in Fahrenheit—so that the user truly knows how miserably hot they are.

Features

Not too hard to figure out the features on the FanSee fan. First of all you have a fan and then you have a super bright LED display, informing you of the temperature. Not to worry though, it also has the added bonus of an oscillation mode. Not really sure if it comes with a variable speed control; the product information didn’t indicate that it did. The LED lights are prominent enough to be seen from across the room, even during the daytime.

Tech Specs

* 9” Diameter fan
* About 12” tall
* Oscillation mode
* LED Temperature display

Price Tag

The FanSee fan retails for $39.99
